Cloud-Based Phone Systems
Cloud-based phone systems are also referred to as hosted-VoIP systems. They make and receive phone (and sometimes video) calls over the internet using telecoms infrastructure which is hosted in the cloud.
Many VoIP systems don’t even require any hardware and run as an application on your PC, this allows you to make calls with the most basic of headsets or headphones.
Cloud-based phone systems are particularly suited to growing businesses as they are highly scalable. You only pay for what you use, and adding a new user is as simple as creating a new account on your system.
On-Premises Phone Systems
On-premises phones systems are also known as PBX (Private Branch Exchange). Unlike cloud-based alternatives, your PBX is an on-premises piece of hardware which manages and routes your phone calls for you.
With on–premise VoIP, your dial tone will come directly into your premises and connect into your phone system. The costs to run an on-premises system are lower than a hosted one, however, you are then responsible for maintaining your on-premises hardware yourself.
