At Carden IT Services, we’re always investigating new tools to help improve our customers’ experience. The latest tool we’ve added to our IT support stack is Datto RMM.

RMM stands for ‘Remote Monitoring Management’. An RMM remotely monitors your network’s endpoints and automatically alerts us to any irregularities. It also functions as a remote access tool through its use of Splashtop, allowing us to assist in fixing problems remotely without the end user needing to install any new software.

At Carden IT Services, we pride ourselves on being able to solve IT issues for our clients before they become systemic problems. By using an RMM system, we can identify these problems before our clients are even aware of them.

Datto can also fix basic IT issues without any human involvement. If Datto detects that a customer’s machine is missing antivirus, it will first run a script to try and install it remotely. If it is unsuccessful, it will automatically raise a ticket in Autotask (our ticketing system) to alert our IT helpdesk who will investigate further. All of this is done without the customer ever having to pick up the phone (or even realising they needed to).

We know there’s never a good time to restart your PC, because if you’re sitting at it, you have work to do. Luckily, Datto RMM allows us to schedule PC and server reboots out of hours, letting updates install while you’re out of the office. This keeps your systems in good working order without any downtime.

We believe that good IT support doesn’t just mean being reactive and fixing problems, it means being proactive in preventing them. Most IT disasters don’t happen all at once, they start with small irregularities and build from there. Being alerted to a malfunctioning PC, a server going down or the absence of antivirus on a machine early can stop an IT problem before it becomes an IT disaster.

By allowing automated systems to take over many of the day to day IT tasks, it frees up our engineers to pursue a more holistic approach to our clients’ networks. More time can be spent planning tomorrow’s IT improvements when we aren’t constantly fixing yesterday’s IT problems.
